Kaiyuh Services, LLC is seeking a full-time Executive Chef to join our team. The Executive Chef shall comply with the Statement of Work and provide high quality, nutritious food and food services to the employees of The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS).

Location: Durham, NC

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Primary Duties include:

  • Coordinates successful contract execution
    • Oversee activities directly related to providing food services. Prepares and cooks most entrees, vegetables, starches, desserts, etc. Receives assignments and establishes timelines and goals to execute assignments. Applies quality oversight principles to problems of service delivery by staff, usually under the direction and in compliance with contract specifications. Maintain required records including food production, inventory, income/expense, meal counts and personnel records. Provide a clean, safe, and attractive serving and dining area, reasonable prices for food and a variety of food offerings.
  • Manages personnel and labor
    • Trains and supervises the performance of assigned staff, interviews and selects employees and coordinates transfers, reassignments, terminations and disciplinary actions; assures substitute coverage as necessary. Creates schedules and prioritizes services effectively. Complies with the terms and procedures as written in the Statement of work.
  • Manages operational budget
    • Responsible for budget preparation and management; coordinates the requisitioning and purchasing of food service supplies and equipment; controls and authorizes expenditures in accordance with established limitations and purchasing rules, develops contract specifications and scope of work. Collects and accounts for funds receipts and making necessary bank transactions.
  • Creates operational and safety procedures
    • Institutes a culture of safety and compliance. Ensure compliance with applicable health and safety standards. Instructs employees in safety procedures. Ensure program follows proper sanitation procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience as a chef in the commercial food service operation with demonstrated ability to plan, prepare, and serve meals
  • Ability to pass a background and drug screening
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products
  • SCA/Government contracting experience preferred
  • Experience in public relations and be able to deal with the public and employees in a courteous and tactful manner
  • Experience in food service operations and be fully knowledgeable about local, state, and federal health codes and requirements
  • Experience in Alaska Native Corporations preferred

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The majority of work is performed in an office setting and interfaces with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities and abilities.
