Job Title: Dishwasher/Cashier

Entity: Kaiyuh Services, LLC

Location: Kodiak, Alaska

Work Hours and Pay: Temporary part-time, hours will vary but may increase during the holiday season. Pay is $17.78 per hour

Reports to: Project Manager

Job Summary: This position will perform both dishwasher and cashier duties which includes ensuring the availability of clean dishes by washing dishes, pots, pans, and flatware using dishwashers or by hand. This position will also ensure that only authorized patrons are allowed to eat in the Coast Guard Dining Facility (CGDF). The Cashier shall ensure that correct meal charges are collected. During meal sales in the CGDF, cashiers shall admit only authorized patrons, obtain signatures, collect payment for meals, and make change. Using the Meal Sign-In sheet, the attendance of personnel would be documented for each meal. Cashiers shall ensure that each patron checks-off his or her parent service, i.e.: Army, USN, above his/her name when signing. Cashiers shall maintain required accountability for cash receipts, cash collected, and meals furnished to "Subsistence-In-Kind" personnel.

Required Qualifications & Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma/GED. One (1) year experience preferred
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Ability to stand or walk for 8-hour shifts and lift at least 20 pounds
  • Willingness to comply with all food safety procedures
  • Responsible for cashier functions including the collection of payment for meals, making a change, and completing all forms and reports. All cashiers must be able to speak, read, write and comprehend the English language.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety plans, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Computer Skills: To perform the job successfully, an individual must be willing to be trained in other computer programs.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Knowledge in the operation of commercial mixers, fryers, and other commercial kitchen equipment a must.
  • Experience in Alaska Native Corporations preferred but not required

Duties:

  • Operate the industrial dishwasher
  • Wash glassware and other implements by hand when necessary
  • Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, or utensils in clean and orderly condition
  • Empty and clean all trash receptacles
  • Rotate dishes to reduce wear and tear on resources
  • Clean dish storage
  • Follow sanitation policies at all times
  • Provide assistance to prep cook and other kitchen staff as needed, especially during peak times
  • Perform opening, closing and side work
  • Clean up spills or broken glassware immediately
  • Report any sanitation or janitorial issues to appropriate party
  • Responsible for collecting and reconciling all cash to be turned in to cash collector at the end of each meal or designated time
  • Ensure authorized individuals are allowed to eat.
  • Keeps the cashier station orderly and neat. Refuse and debris will be discarded before it accumulates to cause an eye sore.
  • Maintains a neat and professional appearance at the dining facility.
  • Maintain customer comment forms to obtain customer feedback and suggestions.
  • Fax, file and copy as needed
  • Maintain current status with all certifications and training
  • Will handle light food preparation (i.e. baking, icing making & decorating cakes, making and portioning desserts (puddings jellos, pies, cakes) preparing and portioning whole apples and oranges. Set out all breakfast items. Set out lunch condiments. Replenish all food items including paper goods. Make coffee. Fill and clean ice cream machine. Replenish juices, teas, soda syrups. Keep all drink machines cleaned. Fill ice. Wipe tables and all surfaces. Will be compensated one hour as a cook 1 daily for food handling.
  • Other duties as assigned.
