Job Title: Power Plant Electrician
Assigned Work Site: Antarctica
Reports to: Power & Water Supervisor
Department: I&O - Utilities
Employment Type: Seasonal Contract

The dates for the positions are approximately 2/15/18 to 10/15/18

GENERAL DUTIES (not all inclusive):
Maintains a safe workplace program and ensures that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
Performs preventive maintenance and repair on all switchgear control circuits, generators, contactors and relays in accordance with procedures and manufacturers' recommendations.
Tests and repairs all safety circuits in generator and control units.
Inspects electrical power generation systems to ensure that no faults exist.
Monitors operation of all power generation electrical components to ensure proper operation.
Monitors loading; operates power generation equipment in an efficient and economical manner.
Completes maintenance records and maintains operating logbooks as required; documents all maintenance performed.
Coordinates with the Supervisor in ordering repair and/or spare parts and assemblies.
Advises the Supervisor the status of power production stock, equipment and systems.
Maintains control of Power Plant Electrician's tools and manuals.
Supports the achievement of metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly, affected by this position's work activities. Works to achieve goals and contractual commitments.
Complies with all Environmental Safety and Health, Waste Management and Quality Assurance policies, procedures, requirements and goals. Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
Troubleshoots and repairs electrical problems.
Responds to power outages and equipment failures as required.
May perform duties of Power Plant Technician or Duty Mechanic and work a rotating shift.
Performs other duties as required.

High school graduate or GED is required.
Previous electrical licensing and power generation certifications are preferred.
Minimum 4 years' experience required in all phases of electrical work.
Minimum 2 years' experience required in power distribution wiring, directly related power plant/electrical switchgear and control panel maintenance and repair.
Ability to read design drawings and wiring diagrams is required.
Experience working with AC and DC voltages from 110 up to 4160 is preferred.
Mechanical, construction, or other industrial experience is preferred.
Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods is required.
Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors.
Must successfully complete the physical, dental and psychological (if applicable) examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica.
Must participate in community programs, such as "house-mouse" (chores), "daisypicking"
(cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.
US citizenship or Permanent US Resident status is required.
