Job Summary: This position assists employees with benefits, maintain employee database, supplement payroll, manage all insurance billings and maintain employee benefit files. They will also monitor salary structures for the majority of positions within the corporation and its subsidiaries.

Required Qualifications & Essential Functions:

  • Minimum of four (4) years' progressively responsible experience in benefits or related benefits administration; or a combination of a Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources or similar and related experience
  • SCA/DBA/Union experience preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and HRIS or benefit software
  • Will spend majority of time in front of a computer with repetitive typing motions
  • Experience in Alaska Native Corporations preferred but not required
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check


  • Administers employee benefit programs including life, medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k) plan and pension
  • Coordinates directly with broker and helps with negotiations for cost efficient, compliant solutions
  • Ensures that the company is compliant with the Affordable Care Act and any other Federal or State requirements
  • Prepares and maintains employee files, assuring accuracy, compliance and confidentially, including but not limited to, unemployment claims, verifications, I9 status and state regulations
  • Prepares and sets up meetings designed to help employees obtain information and understand company benefits and other related incentive programs
  • Provides timely and accurate reports, including VETS 4212, EEO-1, Census, and any other Federal or State required reports
  • Organizes open enrollment process, communicates process to individual sites
  • Provides benefit orientations, enrollments, claims processing and self-billings of insurance
  • Processes and maintains all status reports and pay changes, both on computer and paper system, including COBRA for recently separated employees
  • Updates and maintains employee files regarding the tracking of raises and assists Payroll with benefit deductions or additions in company payroll system
  • Implements new benefit programs; arranges and conducts employee information presentations and enrollments
  • Provides statistics and information in renewal process of any health, life and retirement plans that benefit the company
  • Prepares and maintains bi-weekly employee listings, new hire, and absentee reports
  • Resolves administrative problems with the carrier representatives
  • Supports employees in filing health, dental, life, and all other related and deferred benefit claims
  • Manage, educate, mentor and train staff on all things Compensation and Benefits including, but not limited to, internal and external processes
  • Oversees all leave related and accommodation programs including those governed and mandated by federal law including FMLA, ADA and USERRA, as well as the currently offered leave banks.
  • Periodically assess alternatives for existing leave programs offered and recommend changes that may make leave programs more competitive with other ANC's.
  • Work closely with payroll to ensure compliance and data integrity, especially with FMLA, Workers Compensation and other leaves
  • Stays current with federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations to ensure company compliance
  • Other related duties as assigned

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
